Planta Libre presented the work of artists Andrea Carrillo Iglesias (Tijuana, 1986), Jessica Sevilla (Tijuana, 1988), and Pastizal Zamudio (Mexicali, 1991).

For Material Vol.11, these artists address the natural elements and extractive phenomena that coexist in the desert and the landscape of Mexicali. Through fiction, research, and installation works, they highlight the legacies of the colonial gaze and the modes of domination over the desert. Topics such as off-road racing, the renowned extreme heat, the challenges of working in a desert environment, and the state-corporate alliances in territorial land grabs in the Colorado River delta region are explored in their proposals. This body of work exposes the violent environmental relationships in the region and the echoes of geopolitical border phenomena projected onto the landscape.
